No doubt, a lot of videos had been produced this year by some creative (or should I just say crazy) dudes. In fact, while doing this research, we lost count on all the number of videos that had been produced this year. Yes! Only this year. In this edition of our #TOP FIVE MOST…we shall highlight the few videos that have been able to stand out of the crowd by being on top of thousands of videos produced in 2013. The basis of our analysis is the number of views that these videos have on Youtube as at 01: 25 a.m. on 03/09/2013. It is our belief that whatsoever could have made anyone out there to click on the play button on Youtube in order to stream a music video is actually commendable. No matter how poor, vague, senseless or insignificant any musical video is, if people can stream and watch it on Youtube, it is really remarkable. Here are the top five for this year:

  • MAY D’S ‘GAT ME HIGH’ (1,288, 107 VIEWS)

After being on top of the game last year with ‘Chop My Money’ while he was under Square Record, May D has shown that he actually merits to be on top this year. Without the help of Peter, Paul or Akon, May D has single handedly climbed the lader of success as he emerges as the number five on the list of the artistes with the #TopFiveMost… Viewed Musical Videos on Youtube in 2013.

Please tell me. What is the matter with ‘The Matter’? How could Maleek Berry just come from nowhere and stay on top of the game this year? I’m sure the guy really means business this year. Maleek! Maleek! Maleek! What’s the secret? Please don’t say Wizkid.

  • FLAVOUR’S ‘SHAKE’ (2,373, 306 VIEWS)

This amazing number of views is more than the population of some countries in the world. Did I hear you say Togo? Oh, Ghana? #Justkidding# This video is bound to shake you! Whenever you watch it, please ensure that you hold something.

  • DAVIDO’S ‘GOBE’ (2,658, 712 VIEWS)

Yes! You know I won’t lie to you; it is exactly what you just saw. It is two million, six hundred and fifty eight thousand, seven hundred and twelve views all in this year (less than eight months).

This is habatically unbelievable! What a video! So far, this is the first time I would watch a musical video by Psqaure like forever.

What happened to Tonto Dike’s ‘Hi’ that trended for days on twitter? What went wrong with the A-list artistes such as 2face Idibia, D’banj, Wizkid, Timaya, Iyanya, Ice Prince Zamani, Tiwa Savage, Omawumi and many other artistes like 9ice (Ike kan), MI (Chairman), Banky W (Yes/No), Kcee (Limpopo), Olamide (Durosoke)? Does it really mean these guys are losing their fans as the year passes by? Is it the fault of the media? Is it lack of effective publicity? What exactly is the matter? Do you have any genuine answer to these big questions? Why not share your views here and help someone make a change for good.

  2. Bright

Why is Limpopo not on this list? I thought it has the highest number of viewd the last time I checked.

  3. Bukky

I think the answer to your big question is lack of good publicity. Many big artistes in Nigeria think that it is useless to pump in money into publicity as they used to do when they start making name. they expect the press to do everything for them, so they relent on their publicity stunt. Too bad for them. Nigeria music scene is not becoming very competitive and only the hard working ones can survive.

  4. Jydo

@Bukky, I think you are 70% right but I know some artistes who still pump money into the music business and publicity but they are still not on the list. So, don’t be too precise about your answer.

  5. Linda

how on earth should Youtube views be used as a yardstick for artiste popularity in Nigeria, considering the fact that there is low internet connection in Nigeria and not all states in the country have access to the internet. can u imagine?

  6. DaPrince

@Linda I think you should read the post again it before placing a comment.
